South Korea has updated its regulations to separate the issuance of safety and EMC certifications and update the controlled product list for the KC Mark. Beginning July 1 , 2012, Korea began separately applying the Electrical Safety Appliance Law for the safety and Radio Waves Act for the EMC and has appointed the following certification organizations (COs) to issue certificates:
- Safety Certification Organization: KTL, KTC or KTR
- EMC Certification Organization: NRRA
Many products now require submittal to both a safety CO (KTL, KTC or KTR) and NRRA in order to obtain approval. Several products that only fell under the EMC Radio Waves Act, now must comply with both regulations. Due to the expanded safety product list and to ensure the safety COs are operationally ready, Korea will phase in the new products from July 1, 2012 to July 1, 2013 for the safety KC certification.
