While the new standards GB8898-2011 and GB4943.1-2011 came into effect on November 1, and December 1, 2012 respectively, manufacturers should note the timelines for the certificate updates for their relevant products.
Timeline for GB8898-2011 Certificate Update
Effective from November 1, 2012, the China Quality Certification Centre (CQC) does not accept any applications in reference to the old version of GB8898. Applications for the CCC (China Compulsory Certification) Mark for audio, video and similar electronic apparatus must comply with the new standard (GB 8898-2011).
For products marketed under existing certificates, manufacturers are required to update their certificates according to the new standard by November 1, 2013 or before their next scheduled factory inspection, whichever is earlier. Certificates not updated by then will be suspended. A grace period till February 1, 2014 is further granted to have the certificates updated. Failing that, all suspended certificates will be withdrawn by the CQC after February 1, 2014. From November 1, 2013 onwards, non-compliant products will not be permitted to be shipped out of the factories, sold in or imported into the China market. For products shipped out of the factories, sold in or imported into the China market before November 1, 2013, a certificate update is not required on condition that there will be no further production of the same products.
