On August 1st, 2015, the new GB 31241-2014 standard for safety of lithium batteries was implemented in China. The GB31241 standard covers both lithium cell and battery pack. Currently, lithium battery manufacturers can apply for voluntary CQC or CESI mark. Lithium batteries are currently not under the mandatory CCC certification scheme, however, for end products under the mandatory CCC certification scheme, certification bodies such as CQC, CESI, ISCCC, etc. will require that Lithium batteries meet the GB31241 standard.
For current CCC certified products containing lithium batteries, CNCA will provide a six (6) month transition period from August 1st, 2015. After the transition period, all lithium batteries used in CCC certified end-systems must meet the new GB31241 standard.
