Mandatory as of: October 1st, 2018
As of October 1st, 2018, the Government of India, Department of Telecommunications, will officially implement mandatory testing & certification of ALL telecom equipment that is to be sold or imported into India. This Telecom Equipment Certification (TEC) is valid for five (5) years. Test reports from TEC-accredited labs or test labs of MRA partner countries can be used to obtain TEC in lieu of testing. These test reports must be valid within one (1) year. Customers will also be able to obtain series or family certifications but will need to meet specific parameters. It is to be noted that Telecom Equipment Certification must be done prior to the sale and import of telecom equipment into India.
TEC currently does not cover:
- Modules/ Spare Parts/ Components
- Test Instruments
- Passive Telecom Components (ie: Towers, Antennae, Waveguides, Smart Cards, etc.)
- Integrated systems and networks consisting of more that one telecom device
- Power supplies
- Solar Equipment
- Batteries
It is important to note that products within the scope of WPC, but outside TEC shall be handled by WPC directly. These products include WiFi Modules and Amateur Radio.
