The Indian government recently published a list of proposed items to be covered under phase IV of “Electronics and IT Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012.”
Below is
the proposed list of new products to be covered under India BIS. Note that this is a proposed list, and may
change before it is officially enforced.
Sl. No. | Item | Indian Standard |
01. | LED Modules | IS 16103 |
02. | Lighting Chains (Rope Lights) | IS 10322 |
03. | Keyboards | IS 13252 |
04. | Induction Stoves | IS 302-2-6 |
05. | Automatic Teller Cash dispensing machines | IS 13252 |
06. | Hard Disk Drives (External) | IS 13252 |
07. | Solid State Storage Devices (above 256 GB & External) | IS 13252 |
08. | Electric Musical Systems with i/p power>50W | IS 616 |
09. | Switch Mode Power Supplies with o/p power 48 V (max) | IS 13252 |
10. | Television other than Plasma/ LCD/LED TVs | IS 616 |
The list of products above is proposed to be added to BIS compulsory certification scheme, but could change before implementation. The timing of this phase of the CRO is still unclear, but it is anticipated that enforcement will likely begin within a year from this notification. After it has been enforced, there should be a 6 – 9 months of transition period given to manufacturers to comply with the Order.
Clarification under the proposed IV phase of CRO (Compulsory Registration Order):
- Music systems (including amplified speakers) above 50W would now be covered. Previously, only systems above 200W were covered under the CRO.
- Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) applies to ATX type. It appears that open-frame type power supplies are still exempted from the CRO. SMPS registration will likely be on hold until the Indian version of IEC 62368-1 is published.
- Only LEDs specific to lighting purposes to be covered under CRO. Non-lighting purpose LEDs, which are a part of a finished product, will be excluded.
- Many items have been dropped from an earlier list which included PCBs, Desktop Computers, Internal Storage Drives, Loudspeakers, etc.
