As everyone is aware, COVID-19 has affected many countries, including India. Due to India’s three-week lockdown, the Bureau of Indian Standards has issued the following temporary measures in response:
- For all India BIS renewals that are due during this lockdown period and up to thirty (30) days after, renewal can be deferred for up to thirty days after the end of lockdown. There will also be no late fees required with renewal application within ninety (90) days of renewal.
- For all licenses that are renewed after ninety (90) days of deferment, renewals can be obtained for up to thirty (30) days after the end of lockdown with no penalty.
On April 1st, 2020, the India Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology also advised the following new list of products that now require India BIS Certification. Enforcement of this list is tentatively scheduled to begin October 1st, 2020.
