Detroit, MI, 11/07/2014 – Earlier this month representatives of G&M Compliance, Inc. of Orange, CA (G&M), and representatives of China Certification Centre for Automotive Products (CCAP) met with the heads for homologation for Chrysler, Ford, GM, and Tesla to discuss CCC certification issues required for U.S. car companies to sell into China. China is currently the largest growing market for U.S. auto makers, and is only expected to become larger.
All automobiles imported to China, including a number of internal components, must be individually certified by Chinese Certification Bodies. Automotive parts, including the entire automobile, must be tested and found to comply with applicable Chinese regulations in an approved test lab. Once the testing has been successfully completed, the Certification Body will audit the factories where the parts originate from. Annual inspections from Certification Body representatives will follow the initial inspection.
Given the language difference, changing requirements, and the intricacies of dealing with foreign governments, this certification process can be a challenging task for North American manufacturers. Currently most manufacturers rely on the largest certification body in China for their certifications. During the meeting in Detroit, G&M explained how they have teamed up with an alternate option (CCAP), which specializes in automotive testing. The main focus of the meeting was to explain how this partnership can help ensure a consistent and efficient process, and get automobiles into the China market within a reasonable time frame.
